THE GROUND IS SHAKING BENEATH MY FEETofficially confirmed
WEEPING. LITERALLY FUCKING CRYING TEARS OF JOY I CAN’T EVEN OH MY GOD LIFE IS SO FUCKING AMAZING RIGHT NOW!
WHAT
HELLO CHILDHOOD
YES! Now we just need to know what shows are gonna air…
Remember that awesome mini-movie that opened every episode of Batman: The Animated Series? Police blimps, bank robbery, thrilling instrumental score?
Yeah. Italy didn’t get that. It got this.
Note that this is the television edit of the Italian BTAS intro song, and the full version is a minute and a half longer.
This was my ringtone for a long while.
It’s honestly kind of mind blowing how much the Italian theme song doesn’t match the animation AT ALL. In all seriousness, though, who’s the idiot who replaced the theme done by DANNY FUCKING ELFMAN with this tripe?
It’s a penguin. With a penguin backpack.
Cutest
Even real penguins love Pingu!
You know, I’ve seen the fantastic “The Beatles: Rock Band” cinematic a few years ago from amazingly talented animator Robert Valley, but I’ve never seen this ending clip from the game. His style is just so darn.. stylish!!
And if you haven’t seen the original piece I mentioned:
The Beatles: Rock Band remains one of my favorite games of this generation. Few games have ever made me feel as incredible as nailing Twist and Shout in the story mode on Expert guitar while being practically drowned out by screaming Cavern Club patrons.
I’m reblogging this because I forgot that I wrote all this. Twitter can do that.
The American comics scene is kinda fucked up like that.
To snob out for a second, the European comics scene is probably ideal, at least in terms of variety in the mainstream. You’ve got a good mix of action/adventure, drama and humor comics. Not to say it’s perfect, mind. You’ll still find derivative crap on the shelves of any given Fnac, but still, the selection is diverse, and there are many diamonds in the rough. One particular gem I’ve come to love recently is Omnivisibilis.
Japan’s a bit better off than the US, too, in terms of variety in subject matter, even if the art styles are very homogenous (I honestly can’t think of many mainstream manga artists nowadays whose styles can’t really be defined as ‘anime’; Some, yes, but not many). Shonen action titles may reign supreme, but there’s still been a healthy market for humor and romance titles, among other genres, despite the fact that the Japanese manga market’s been seeing a bit of stagnation as of late (my ideas as to why are for a whole separate rant). One title I have been very interested in but haven’t had the chance to read yet is Bakuman, a manga about a couple of modern high school kids who want to become mangaka published in Weekly Shonen Jump and the struggles they face along the way. Not only do I love the premise, but it’s from the same creative team as Death Note, which was itself spectacular.
America, though? The mainstream only really gives a shit about superhero comics and the odd indie success of the month, e.g. the fantastic Scott Pilgrim series (technically Canadian, but nevermind that), and even then, that interest is marginalized, due to our comics culture equaling only a fraction of those overseas. It’s telling that San Diego Comic Con, the biggest convention of its kind in the US, has been pushing comics to the side increasingly with every passing year as movies, television and video games take center stage. This isn’t to add to the myth that comics are “taken seriously” in Europe and Japan, though. More so than in the US, maybe, but still not really.
tl;dr: Though things could be better for the global comics industry, the American comics scene in particular really needs to get its shit together.
Just a basic character idea for a story that’s been bouncing around in my head for a while, a story that’s actually much more lighthearted than this picture would suggest. Also thought this would be a nice time to try some more dramatic lighting, so hey!
